Project Background
The house is designed to be sustainable. The remodel maintained the rustic wood ceilings, but added insulation and a new heating system to keep the house comfortable all year round.
Exterior Renderings
Constructed as personal residence for the customer, a new energy efficient dwelling was tied to an existing cottage by means of an open breeze way. The cottage became the guest house and an Architect's studio is located at the rear of the property.
Oriented for solar and constructed of durable and energy efficient materials. The dynamic arrangement of elements and the appropriation of the architectural language of the local vernacular - standing seam metal roof, cedar shake details, half walls on the porches, traditional round columns - have produced a sensitive contextual response within a thoroughly post modern vocabulary.
