Project Background
Looking back to 1958, Suining Jinhua Textile Factory was built and made Suining as the major city of manufacturing military textiles during World War II. The Textile Factory has carried the culture and memories across the century. Up till now, Jinhua Industrial District still keeps the collective memory of textile factory and traditional Minguo style. To preserve these, QUAD designed a modern Suining Q Hotel with local culture.
Located in Sichuan, Suining Q Hotel connects the ancient and modern culture by integrating the background history and culture into the design. The unique traditional elements create the sense of place to Jinhua Industrial District while the modern design enhances the diversity of the design to make the hotel lively and energetic.
Project Concept
QUAD design team struck a balance between the Minguo style and young energetic elements by injecting the six new elements of QUBE with signature red brand image of Q Hotel.With traditional red brick facade, Suining Q Hotel has 9 floors and 197 rooms to provide excellent hospitality experience. Inspired by the 6 facets of the QUBE, Q Hotel is zoned into 6 areas symbolizing the six characteristics of the QUBE including Q Diversity, Q Challenge, Q Look, Q Step, Q Move and Q Weaving & Living.
Project Highlights
Q Diversity – Reception.The reception is located next to the hotel lobby entrance. Weaving Suining tourist attraction map with metal strings. Showing the local characteristics and culture to the guests, the wall also symbolizing Suining as energetic and diverse.
The team creatively merged traditional abacus which were frequently used by the workers to create Q ceiling lamp.
Q Diversity – Lobby. Designed with Q red colour with simple and interesting furniture, the brand personality and cultural diversity are created surrounding by furniture details and stairs with Q red colour offering a cosy reception area with traditional Minguo style
Lobby floor, feature ceiling lamp and furniture materials are full of textile characteristics connecting with the textile factory culture. More textile elements are shown on the lobby end wall screen to illustrate the local history and culture to the guests.
Q Challenge – Bar Lounge.The design of the lobby extends seamlessly to the lounge through the resting area. The lounge wall is full of textile texture and the bar table has the elements of factory machines. Minguo style is created through the details. Years ago, workers had to suffer nearly 100dp noise of the textile machines and it was a huge challenge for them to work. To connect the memories, the lounge is named as Q Challenge
Q Look – All Day Dining. ADD is located at the right side of the lobby. A feature wall showing the old image of factory is at the entrance and next to it, there is a red brick wall hanging images of the factory for diners to look back the workers’ bits of life. Q cube lights are placed so diners can also enjoy and revisit the textile factory characteristics in the restaurant.
Q Move – Conference Rooms. Located on the second floor, the conference rooms are designed with more colours to increase the vitality of the space. The rooms are named under the textile quantifier – Ingots, symbolizing to move Suining into a greater city.
Q Step – Gym room and Game room. Gym room is different from the overall design of the hotel.
Bright colours and contrast are used to inject vitality to the hotel. Users’ sensations are stimulated to enhance enthusiasm and to facilitate urban energy improvement.
Q Weaving & Living – Q Social – Typical Lobby. The elevator lobby connects the common area to weave a casual, relaxing and energetic Q Social space for guests. The metallic iron textile elements are shown in the lobby on every floor.
Q Weaving & Living – Typical Corridor. The corridor uses harmonious and minimal natural colours. Textile materials and abacus concept are used to design the lively room signage.
Q Living – Typical Guestroom. Simple design of typical king guestroom matches natural colours with light and fresh green colour while Q furniture is placed. A neat and fresh rest area is created in the room.
Typical twin guestroom uses blue colour as highlight with Q lamp and furniture to balance the old and modern characteristics.
Young and energetic colours and furniture create a lively atmosphere to provide a unique experience to guests in Suining Q Hotel.
Floor Plan
Minguo history and textile factory culture play a significant role to Suining Textile Factory of being precious memories to Suining residents. Integrating Minguo culture from the outside, the Q colour combination and furnish on the first floor show Suining history to look back. Details in different zonings as in wall design and furniture selection use textile related concepts to reflect the factory culture.
Interior Renderings
Traditional details blend in modern design, injecting vitality and simulation to every corner of the hotel. The Q elements on second and ninth floor integrate with the three main concepts to create a reborn feeling of the culture combination of Q Hotel. Located in Suining 1958 Cultural District, Q Hotel facilitates Suining to become a new diverse city along with other mixed-use development.
