Project Background
A 30'x40' plot, located amidst the lush coffee estate of Belur, Karnataka. This is a vacation house for a family of 8 members. With heavy rainfall the design intent was to provide a climate responsive architectural design that not only addresses the issues of dampness but also aesthetically pleasing house. Our concepts were derived from the client's requirements and problems that required long term solution.
Exterior Renderings
A house that is vaastu compliant , entails the transition from traditional to modernage. We have incorporated these 2 styles in harmony with each other. The house is constituted with 2 floors with a double height sky lit puja room which serves as a heart of family and its cultural practices. The client requirements served as a basis for spatial planning & facade design.
Requirements:
- Vaastu Compliant Residence.
- A living room that's large enough to host 25+ guests at a time.
- A kitchen with a standalone space to worship their home diety.
- 8 seater Dining area open to outside plantation area.
- unique double height puja room
- study Area that overlooks the coffee fields and a terrace balcony.
- 3 bedrooms where one large bedroom is for the 5 sisters to hangout & sleep together.
Design option - with a wall designed in a pattern with few voids that allowed an interesting play of light and shadow in the double height puja room along the open living, dining and family room.
Entrance portico - 8' wide entrance portico that has a canopy created by sunken slab to accommodate landscaping, supported by designer circular columns in metal & solid wood.
