Good Mechanical Properties
Hot-rolled steel coils are rolled at high temperatures, which refines and homogenizes the grains inside the steel. This endows it with relatively high strength and toughness. For example, the hot-rolled steel coils used in building structures can bear relatively large loads, as its good strength can ensure the stability of the building; in the field of mechanical manufacturing, its toughness can resist the impact and vibration that components are subjected to during the use process, reducing the risk of fracture.
During the hot-rolling process, the internal stresses of the steel are released. Compared with cold-rolled steel coils, it has a relatively lower possibility of deformation and cracking during subsequent processing and use.
Superior Machinability
The surface hardness of hot-rolled steel coils is relatively low, which makes it easier for operations such as cutting and welding. For example, in shipyards, when using hot-rolled steel coils to manufacture hull structures, workers can cut and weld them more conveniently to meet the complex shape requirements of the hull.
It can withstand a relatively large degree of deformation without breaking and is suitable for various forming processes such as bending and stamping. In the automobile manufacturing industry, hot-rolled steel coils can be processed into components such as automobile frames, and the required shapes can be formed through stamping and other processes.
Surface Quality Characteristics
There is a layer of oxide scale on the surface of hot-rolled steel coils, which is formed by the reaction between the steel surface and the oxygen in the air during the hot-rolling process. Although this layer of oxide scale affects the appearance of the steel to a certain extent, it also plays a role in protecting the internal matrix of the steel, preventing the steel from further oxidation and corrosion.
