Characteristics of Chemical Composition:
Low Carbon Content: The carbon content is extremely low, with a maximum carbon content of generally 0.03%. The low carbon content helps to reduce the tendency of intergranular corrosion during welding, which is of great importance for stainless steel pipes that require welding operations. It can ensure the corrosion resistance of the welded parts, enabling them to maintain good performance after welding.
High Chromium and Nickel Content: It contains at least 18% chromium and 8% - 12% nickel. The chromium element can form a dense chromium oxide protective film on the surface of the steel pipe, preventing oxygen, moisture and other corrosive media from coming into contact with the internal metal matrix of the steel pipe, thus endowing the stainless steel pipe with good corrosion resistance. The addition of the nickel element can improve the toughness and ductility of the stainless steel pipe, making it easier to process and form.
Excellent Corrosion Resistance:
Good Overall Corrosion Resistance: In general corrosive environments, such as humid, air, and mildly acidic or alkaline environments, 304L stainless steel pipes have excellent corrosion resistance. They can be exposed to these environments for a long time without being prone to rusting or corrosion. Therefore, they are widely used in occasions where high requirements for the corrosion resistance of materials are imposed, such as in the chemical industry, food processing, and medical device fields.
Good Corrosion Resistance after Welding: Especially after welding or stress relieving, its resistance to intergranular corrosion is excellent. During the welding process, high temperatures may cause carbides to precipitate at the grain boundaries, thereby reducing the corrosion resistance of the material. However, due to the low carbon content of 304L stainless steel pipes, this kind of intergranular corrosion can be effectively avoided, ensuring that the corrosion resistance of the welded parts is equivalent to that of the base material.
