Why Ipe for Exterior wood siding panel ?
Ipe is also sometimes called “Brazilian walnut” (not to be confused with Imbuia, which shares the same nickname but is a completely different type of wood).Brazilian Walnut is a deep dark brown colored wood with exceptionally fine graining. Heartwood olive brown to blackish, often with lighter or darker striping, often covered with a yellow powder; sharply demarcated from the whitish or yellowish sapwood.
It is for that hardness that many families choose Ipe when shopping for new floors because it can hold up to household activities better than nearly any other kind of wood floors. As already mentioned, Brazilian Walnut achieved a 3680 on the Janka Hardness chart, making it nearly 3x harder than Northern Red Oak.
Ipe is stronger than any other wood and that it's actually what we used to call "ironwood" .In fact ipe is so much stronger and harder than other woods, you should use carbide tipped blades and tips. It's also recommended that you pre-drill your holes for screws.
If you use Ipe! It lasts over 40 years with NO maintenance. It will change color from a dark brown to a beautiful silvery patina. If you wish to keep the new wood look, then you need to use oil with a U.V. inhibitor on the Ipe wood flooring. There are also a few other quality hardwoods that don't need additional yearly labor.
