About IPE exterior rainscreen wood siding
A rainscreen is an exterior wall detail where the siding stands off from the moisture-resistant surface of an air barrier applied to the sheathing to create a capillary break and to allow drainage and evaporation. The rain screen is the siding itself but the term rainscreen implies a system of building. Ideally the rain screen prevents the wall air/moisture barrier on sheathing from getting wet. In some cases a rainscreen wall is called a pressure-equalized rainscreen wall where the ventilation openings are large enough for the air pressure to nearly equalize on both sides of the rain screen.
Ipe is the most rugged and durable wood species available for rain screen, wood cladding & siding installations. Pronounced E'-pay, Our Ipe hardwood cladding & siding has the same strength and high density characteristics as Ipe decking and Ipe lumber. Ipe rain screen wood siding has a rich natural beauty that can be enhanced with a natural oil finish or Ipe siding can be allowed to "weather out" to a natural silvery patina.
Ipe makes an impressive and long lasting real hardwood cladding material. The beautiful brown tones of Ipe siding add a warm visual appeal and the durability of Ipe rainscreen cladding material make it a natural for rainscreen system installations.
Our Ipe hardwood decking and siding has been thoroughly tested and has received a Class A fire rating which meets all the standard performance requirements for the ASTM E-84 testing for Class A building material.
